Pilgrimsroute to Santiago de Compostela

Millions of pilgrims from all over the world walk the over 1200 year old pilgrims’ route to Santiago de Compostella in North-western Spain for centuries. Many of them, that walk the route, are having problems in every sense of the word: divorce, sickness, loss of their spouse or child. During the pilgrimage the pilgrims need not only shelter and food but they also need care, understanding and warmth to help them deal with their problems. In other words: an oasis during their pilgrimage.

The refuge

The goals of the foundation are:

  • to be of help to the people who walk their (life)path on this difficult route.

  • we offer the tired pilgrim a cosy shelter where volunteers help them with care and love. Our volunteers work on a temporary basis (min. of 2 weeks) in the refuge.

  • take care of pilgrims in need of medical care.

Our refuge will be different from most of the refuges because we want to offer medical help as well. The Spanish people in the village are enthousiastic about that because a long time ago there were many "hospitals" along the road to Santiago de Compostella. So in fact we restore a kind of tradition.

Our foundation is, as in the old times, based on non-profit and work with volunteers only.

People, no matter for what reasons, who undergo the pilgrimexperience on their long pilgrimage route are also focused on spiritual things. That's why we want our "oasis" to be a place of peace. Together with our guests we want to discover the meaning for their life as pilgrim and human being.
